Empowering the Second Generation
Why the children of first-generation immigrants are critical to the future of American Christianity
Enroll me!
First-generation immigran churches have the highest rates of disciple-making and church planting in North America. But because they worship in the language and culture of their homelands, most fail to reach their children with the gospel. Those second-generation youth who love Christ relate well across cultures, generations and languages. Their spiritual gifts are critical for the future leadership of the American church. Here is what you will learn in 6 brief modules:
Module 1: Who are the second generation?
Module 2: Loving the second generation as children: Use English
Module 3: Embracing the second generation as youth: Establish their identity in Christ
Module 4: Empowering the second generation as young adults
Module 5: New wind requires new wineskins
Module 6: Paths forward
Each module consists of a brief video and accompanying Study Guide
In worshipping at 60 highly diverse immigrant churches across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area, there is one story I’ve observed all too often: first-generation immigrant believers that are highly effective at making disciples and planting churches among their peers, yet ineffective at winning the hearts of their children for Christ or empowering them as young adults for leadership. I’m not alone. Ministry leaders across North America tell me similar stories.
But there are marvelous exceptions. I know first-generation pastoral leaders who excel at empowering their next generations for leadership. And I’ve been privileged to meet several of their children and grandchildren who are discovering innovative methods of disciple-making and worship. This course includes clips from video interviews of a number of such leaders.
Whether you have lived in the U.S. for one, two, or multiple generations, whether or not you are in full-time ministry, Empowering the Second Generation will share practical steps you can take to build a more vibrant future for the American Church by empowering the next generation of ministry leaders.
